HEIDI FUHRMAN

Trained as a lawyer, with an eye for detail, Heidi Fuhrman travels the Hudson Valley and the world with her lens in search of nature’s sublime and striking poses.  She captures serendipitous moments in time, timeless monuments resting in the firmament, and compelling geometry and symmetry hidden in disarray.  Her photography declares war on unnatural human distractions, forcing us to stop and watch closely as nature unfurls its beneficent magnificence.

She is a native of New York, schooled in New York, Boston and Oxford, and reeducated in deep swells off the coast of Maine, in a hail storm atop Mt. Tam, in the blinding sun of the Pyrenees and Alps, and among the romantic ruins of Scottish, Greek and Roman history.  And while she is at peace on a long-distance run along a solitary path, she equally celebrates the beautiful cacophony of her three favorite edifices to humanity, New York, Paris and Barcelona.

Her fine art photography has been selected for exhibits at New York City museums and galleries (Museum of the City of New York, New York Hall of Science and Soho Photo Gallery) -- including a 3-month solo exhibit of 50+ works at NY Hall of Science  in 2019 (pre-pandemic).  In the Hudson River Valley, she has been invited to exhibit in curated and juried shows, and in exhibits focused on her works, at regional museums, public venues and private galleries (including ArtsWestchester Gallery in White Plains, Blue Door Gallery in Yonkers, Rockefeller Preserve Art Gallery in Pocantico Hills, Warner Library in Tarrytown, Mt Vernon City Hall, Katonah Arts Center, Greenburgh Public Library, Briarcliff Public Library, Harrison Public Library and other venues).  She works closely with the Rockefeller State Park Preserve as a photographer for web and print publications.  Her photography has been featured in arts and culture magazines and event websites in the Hudson Valley, including Hook Magazine and the Dutchess Balloon Festival.

Heidi also has used her photography to bring pleasure to others.  Her works grace the walls of health care institutions, including the McCarton Foundation (Center for Autism).  She also has worked to support her local community of photographers, serving as a Board member and President of a local photography club of 90 members, and guiding trips and seasonal photo walks (including at the invitation of local photography organizations, the NYS Rockefeller State Park Preserve, Friends of Rockefeller Preserve, and Westchester Land Trust).

Beyond photography, Heidi has had a career as an international litigation lawyer and a legal author based in NYC.  In education, she has been invited to serve as a Trustee of Manhattanville College (as well as President of its national Alumni Association) and as President of her community's high school PTA.  She runs 40-mile weeks and races marathons and half-marathons as a member of the elite Taconic Road Runners. And she is a founding Board member of Run Wild, Inc., a new nonprofit dedicated to sponsoring long-distance runs in the Hudson Valley and raising funds for environmental and land conservation projects.
